Reason for interest: Record-breaking rain in central Tennessee

This very rare flood event in Tennessee caused extensive damage and claimed over 20 lives. A slow-moving cold front stalled over central Tennessee. With moisture streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico, the area was inundated with rain for two days, shattering several rainfall records. Multiple sites received over 17 inches of rain spanning a two-day period. The first and third rainiest days ever recorded in Nashville took place back-to-back during this event.
