Mesoscale Model Evaluation Testbed

MMET Case: 29 July 2013

Case Description

Reason for interest: Flooding over the central plains.

Flooding occurred over portions of the central plains with weekly precipitation amounts totaling 5 to 10+ inches. Thunderstorms from 28 July evolved into an MCS over Kansas and that remained relatively stationary throughout the night. A stalled stationary front allowed for MCS development once again the next day, bringing continually heavy rain to the same areas over Kansas for nearly 48 hours. The latter MCS did not move out of Kansas until 09 UTC on 30 July.
