MMET Case: 09-10 May 2016
Case Description
Reason for interest: Severe weather over central plains
Severe storms developed along a dry line situated over central Oklahoma on May 9th, 2016. An unstable atmosphere coupled with strong wind shear associated with a trough of low pressure over the southern plains resulted in the development of the supercell thunderstorms. These supercells produced damaging winds, up to baseball sized hail, and dozens of tornadoes. Some of the tornadoes were damaging and long-lived and resulted in 2 deaths.
