Case Description

Reason for interest: Flooding in W. Virginia and surrounding states

On June 23-24, 2016 A storm system that originated near the Great Lakes in an area of large temperature contrast, and traveling east along the jet stream, brought repeated rounds of thunderstorms across the state of West Virginia and surrounding states. Up to 10 inches fell during the duration of the event in some areas, resulting in extreme flooding, and leading to 23 fatalities.
